Water Systems

Water is one of the main limiting factors for a resilient growing system.

This section documents how the project thinks about water capture, storage, distribution and efficient use.

Focus areas

  • rainwater harvesting;
  • water tanks and intermediate storage;
  • gravity-fed and pumped irrigation;
  • drip irrigation and low-loss delivery;
  • overflow paths and drainage;
  • water reuse where practical;
  • monitoring moisture and water demand.

Design goals

  1. Reduce dependence on constant manual watering.
  2. Store enough water for dry periods.
  3. Deliver water close to plant roots.
  4. Avoid erosion, runoff and waste.
  5. Connect irrigation decisions to real field observations.
